Sony AIT-5 Tape Cartridges (Sony Part #SDX5-200C) provide 400GB of native storage capacity and 1040GB of compressed capacity, on a rewriteable (RW) media type, and is typically used for server, SAN, and NAS backup applications where multiple Terabytes of data needs to be backed up within a few hours, and where the write-once properties of WORM tape are not required for regulatory compliance. One of the most compelling features of the AIT format is that many generations are both, backwards and forwards compatible, allowing multiple generations of tape drives to read and write to multiple generations of media.
